India won the match by beating Myanmar by 1:0
India made Myanmar pay
for their profligacy in front of goal as in the last minute of the match Udanta
tore away from his marker down the right before finding Chhetri in the box who
made no mistake and smashed it past an onrushing Si Thu to give India the lead.
It was Chhetri who had begun the move and it was only fair that he was the man
to finish it.
Myanmar 0 : 1 India FT
Sunil Chhetri 89'
FULL TIME: Myanmar 0-1 India. The Blue Tigers open their account in Group A of the 2019 Asian Cup third round qualifying with an away win in Yangon courtesy a late goal by skipper Sunil Chhetri.
90' What a goal from the Sunil Chhetri! Still India's best he shows.
In fact he starts the move and passes it to Udanta. Jeje too gets into the act
and diagonal to Udanta sees him run with abusive pace down the right. Chhetri
in the centre gets the ball and slams it into the bottom left corner.
88' Jackichand Singh goes off after a torrid display. Assam born Halicharan Narzary replaces him. Like for like sub it seems.
86' SHOT and SAVED! Udanta cuts through Thein
and gets the ball from Chhetri. An angled shot with a lot of power and the
Burmese keeper holds it like his own baby.
83' Lyngdoh sends the ball in and the Burmese
defense does well to clear the effort. Without Robin, India are vertically
challenged and there is no scope of a header anyhow. On the counter, Myo Ko Tun
triggers the ball for Kyaw Ko but the latter is ruled offside.
77' Thu again trying to go past Jhingan by
flicking the ball over him but Jhingan would have none of it. He stops him in
his tracks!
76' NO PENALTY! Sunill Chhetri does well to send Udanta Singh go through on goal who is brought down by a late challenge from the Myanmat defender. Replays show it was a stonewall penalty, but referee thought otherwise. Huge moment in the match and India would be complaining if they don't get a positive result today. Match remains goalless after 75 minutes.
69' Thu tries to go past Narayan but he stands tall before Naing does the same but Narayan comes out the winner there too winning a free kick! Good defending
61' Sunil tries to go down the left but is blocked! This is before again India look lax in defense as a ball is allowed to come in off Win but Anas does well to get a touch to it to clear!
55' Another counter attack and Ko Ko is clear down the right and he tries to square it for his team mates but this time Anas has a foot out to clear before Thu could get to it.
48' Aung Thu does well to drop deep and pick up the ball completely unmarked and finds Ko Ko who tries to hit it first time towards the far post but that has missed the mark!
47' Sunil is released down the right but his pass infield is blocked allowing Myanmar to counter
HALF TIME! Myanmar and India are locked at 0-0 at the break and it is a surprise that no goals have been scored.
45' Pretty lax stuff from Myanmar now. Try to play
quick passes in India’s final third but the second player is offside.
43' Sunil Chhetri goes down inside the box and appeals for a penalty but the referee turns it down.
40' Yellow Card! Sandesh Jhingan goes into the book. Took one for the team there. Myanmar forward was threatening to go clear on goal.
32' Golden Chance! Robin Singh with a glorious low cross and Jackichand,
somehow, left foots it over the bar. He had the simplest task to put the ball
in the back of the net but he lets it go. Was possible easier to score than to
miss. Unbelievable miss!
28' HUGE CHANCE FOR MYANMAR! Just as we say the game has had few chances, Myanmar create the best chance of the game. They get behind the Indian defense but Kyaw Ko's final pass is poor. Score remains 0-0 after 30 minutes
20' Jeje tried his luck from distance in the 18th
minutes, but his shot was well over the crossbar in the end. Good intent from India
at the start of the game. Have not allowed the home side to get on top of them.
18' Cross from the left by a Myanmar player looking for Kyaw Ko Ko in the centre of the area
but it is defended away acrobatically. Goes for a corner and that comes to nothing in the end
16' This time Jeje shoots from outside the area and he, too, misses the target. Both sides yet to test the keeper
10' Ten minutes played in Yangon. Quick start by both teams, lots of
energy on display. But nothing worth showing for at this juncture. Myanmar try
to play a neat one-two but Gurpreet comes off his line and grasps it before
Aung Thu could pounce.
5' The home side have come into the game now after India made a quick start. The game is now a more even contest. Both teams trying to get a feel of each other. India would perhaps be happy to play on the break
KICK OFF! India begin
